Mr. Héctor O. Vergara
Dear Héctor,
On behalf of the Canadian Soccer Referees’ Association, its Member Associations and the CSRA Executive Committee, I would like to congratulate you on your significant accomplishments at the International level over the last 19 years.
With so many officials available for appointments by F.I.F.A., your record of being appointed on such a consistent basis is a tribute to your outstanding fitness, sound judgement and positive contribution to officiating teams and more generally, the Game.
It is a significant feat to have spent nearly 2 decades on the FIFA list and be involved in 11 FIFA competitions, including FIFA World Cups (2002, 2006 and 2010).
Your record for the most World Cup games as a referee/assistant referee at 14 which was reached July 10th, 2010 in the third-place play-off match between Uruguay and Germany at Port Elizabeth Stadium shows your level of commitment to excellence.
It is a tribute to you that your appointments have been not only numerous but at the most senior level games including
World Cup appointments in
two 3rd placed matches (2002 & 2010) as well as the Germany - Italy Semi-Final in 2006.
Having officiated nearly 150 international matches involving Clubs and Nationals Teams playing at the highest competitions in the world including Six CONCACAF Gold Cups (three Finals), the 2004 Olympic
Games (Semi-Final),
the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup (Fifth official on final),
two FIFA Club World Cups (finals in 2005 & 2009) as well as two FIFA U-20 World Youth Championship (ARG-FRA QF) and two FIFA U17 World Championships (BRA-ARG semi in 1995, 3rd place match in 1993), your inspiration to all of Canada’s refereeing community is clearly apparent.
As a recipient of the John B. Meachin Memorial Fund Award (to attend high-level international symposia, workshops and competitions) administered by the CSRA, you have been an outstanding ambassador and have been an ongoing supporter of the efforts of the Canadian Soccer Referees’ Association to help a new generation of officials to follow in your footsteps.
In closing, I would like to thank you for the ongoing support of our organization and please accept our best wishes for your future endeavours.
Yours in Soccer,
Joseph Licandro
President
Canadian Soccer Referees’ Association
